Dunollie Castle & the 1745 House

Updated: Jan 7, 2018

If you decide to see more of Oban, rather than simply dashing off to the isles, you might be pleasantly surprised. The 1745 House at Dunollie, a museum, culture centre and heritage site, is found at the Seat of Clan MacDougall. Dunollie Castle is a small ruined castle located on a hill north of the town of Oban, on the west coast of Scotland in Argyll. The site enjoys views over towards the island of Kerrera and a view of the town, harbour, and outlying isles, both are a must see.

The 1745 House was the first home of the chiefs of the Clan MacDougall, when Dunollie Castle fell into ruin and disrepair. The 1745 House is now open for visitors to explore the history of the family and rural life through objects within the Clan and Hope MacDougall Collections.
